3Gb/s test equipment
1 May, 2008 - 08:15Test and measurement equipment manufacturer OmniTek has launched its new DataLab system, a combination of full-motion signal generator combined with a comprehensive SDI data analyser. The DataLab is compatible with all 3Gb/s type A/B, Dual-link, HD, and SD video formats.
The new 3Gb/s SDI formats as specified in SMPTE 424M and 425M provide broadcasters with the capability to transfer 1080p60 video signals in real-time over a single 75ohm coax cable. In addition, the 3Gb/s standards specify a wide range of other capabilities including sending two simultaneous independent HD signals over a single cable, or an HD dual-link signal in any of the recognised formats.
Mike Hodson, president of OmniTek, said: "The new 3Gb/s standards give broadcasters and post-production houses much greater flexibility with their signal routing. However, the new technology has also given equipment designers and manufacturers some headaches, due to the lack of reliable signal sources and data monitors to check that their products are working correctly with the 3Gb/s signals."
The new DataLab from OmniTek is designed specifically to meet the needs of design engineers working with the new 3Gb/s SDI signals. Containing two independent full-function signal generators, and two comprehensive digital data analysers, the DataLab is one of the most advanced signal generation and analysis system available today.
Hodson continued: "The OmniTek DataLab contains all the tools an engineer needs to validate their designs in the new 3Gb/s SDI formats. We have already had considerable interest in the system from many of the world's major equipment manufacturers, and this again demonstrates that OmniTek is at the very forefront of broadcast technology development."
